In September, 2022, Dee was a featured panelist at the St. Augustine Film Society’s monthly meeting which featured a film from their eco-series, “Endangered Mermaids”, followed by a lively discussion about Manatees. This event, held at the St. Augustine Yacht Club, was well attended by many who were concerned about Florida’s Manatees. Other panelists were a Marine Mammal Research Biologist with the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission (“FWC”), Nadia Gordon, and the Curator of Mammals at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, Craig Miller. The 2007 film, “Endangered Mermaids” featured subject—manatees—discussed the difficult times they were having, especially getting food in the Indian River Lagoon. They also discussed the dangers presented by boats not observing posted speed limits in posted manatee zones.
